THE BEER FROM UP HERE
GREAT NORTHERN
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Established in 1927 in the sunny Queensland city of Cairns, Great Northern Brewing set out to create beer specifically brewed to suit the harsh climate and conditions of the north state. A clean, crisp and most importantly refreshing beer emerged that the locals couldn't get enough of - The Cairns Draught. The brewery then merged with CUB in 1931, becoming CUB's first operational brewery in Queensland before closing in 1992. 2010 was the year of Great Northern Brewing Co - named after the original brewery. This saw the revival of the all too well known marlin logo which originally featured on the now discontinued Cairns Draught. Replicating and enhancing all the local flavours enjoyed by the people in Cairns for years, Great Northern Brewing Co launched it's original lager. Brewed for a longer period of time compared to most lagers, Great Northern Original produces a crisper and more refreshing brew.
PAYING HOMAGE TO CAIRNS
Designed with an easy going lifestyle in mind, this lager compliments such activities with subtle bitterness, a crisp palate and fruity aromas producing a refreshingly dry drop. Utilising light stable hops to prevent sunlight from impacting the brew creates that signature crisp finish on the taste buds. When satisfied with their creation, Great Northern Brewing Co launched their lager in the city of its origin - Cairns. Arming themselves with variations of the Original recipe, they took their brews on the road throughout Northern Queensland, The Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Western Queensland to share their lager. Originally, Great Northern was only able to be purchased in Queensland, but tourists coming to holiday soon began begging their home pubs and bottle-o's to stock this desirable drop. The cravings became so intense, interstate establishment owners began crossing the border just to stock up on the famous marlin to appease the demand from patrons. By 2015 with their launch of Great Northern Super Crisp, the brand was available nation wide.
CRISP THEN, CRISP NOW
2021 launched Great Northern Zero to fill the niche in the market for those unable to enjoy the alcoholic version. Met with immense approval across state in Australia solidified the community driven backing behind this long standing brand. The concept of drinking locally made beer still remains ingrained in both Australians and Great Northern Brewing Co, where they continue to be humbled by their own success story of producing a beer that compliments the endless summers in Australia.
