Bentspoke Brewing - Crankshaft
Coming in at number 1 is Bentspoke Brewing's 'Crankshaft' - a medium bodied IPA with hints of citrus, pine and a notable floral nose. This full flavoured brew hits its can cracker's taste buds with a nice punch of hops followed by a solid malty finish.
After the grand opening of the Bentspoke Brew Pub in 2014, owners and Canberra locals, Richard Watkins and Tracy Margrain were quick to find fame in the community.
Although debuting at number 88 in 2015, Crankshaft climbed eighty places to land at number 8 in 2016, and by 2017 they were within the top 5 placing at 3rd where they remained until 2020.
If you're after a dangerously moreish beer, grab a Crankshaft from your local Legends, because hey - if it's been voted number 1 for two years in a row, you know it's going to be good.
Balter Brewing - XPA
Another near miss for Balter XPA who rode the number 1 fame from 2017-2018, but since their debut in 2016 at number 4, they've never left the top 5.
This beer boasts an intense fruity palette paired with both tropical and floral aromatics designed to make your taste buds party. It's coined 'refreshing bitterness' is what separates this can from other XPAs - nailing the fine line between a fully-hopped beer that's also easy to drink.
Since their beginning in 2016, the six founders including champion surfers Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Bede Durbridge and Josh Kerr, have encompassed multiple local and international awards.
Although loving the positive recognition, at heart this is a group of mates who just love what they do and the proof is in the taste.
Your Mates - Larry
Making big waves for a small brewery is Sunshine Coast's own 'Your Mates' with their pale ale lovingly dubbed 'Larry'.
From humble beginnings using a makeshift bar in their garage serving schooners to their friends, mates Hep and McGarry have consistently climbed the Hottest 100, landing at their highest spot ever in 2021 - number 3.
Keeping up a steady one spot increase from 2019, the duo have smashed any doubt from the public about their tiresome work to perfect the pale ale and it shows. This beer has teasingly summery notes of passionfruit, pineapple and mango making this light bodied brew a perfect can-sized remake of the Sunny Coast's laid back energy.
If you're wanting to venture out from your go-to, or dipping your toes in the craft beer world for the first time, 'Larry' is a fantastic starter.
