XXXX HAS BEEN STRIKING GOLD AMONGST ALL BEER LOVERS FOR THE LAST 140 YEARS
LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS AUSSIE BEER ICON
THE BIRTH OF A LEGEND
XXXX started in 1878. It was a dream and ambition of two brothers, Nicolas and Edward Fitzgerald. Their one goal in life was to create the best and finest ales known to man, that will be loved by every generation that walks this sunburnt land.
Starting out in Castlemain Victoria, the boys decided that they needed a world-class brewery and warmer weather. So the boys packed their bags and moved up to Brisbane.
Then, on the 13th of September that year, they sold their first beer. Which then marked the birthday of Castlemaine Brewery, now known as the home of XXXX.
WHY IS IT CALLED XXXX?
If you're a non-beer drinker and ever asked this, well here is your answer!
Back in the day, beer quality was measured in X. The first drop produced by this brewery was XXX Sparkling Ale, awarded their respectable 3 Xs.
So in 1893, the brewers perfected their recipe and gained their fourth, well deserved, X. Hence, the establishment of XXXX.
NOW WHO IS THIS GUY?
With 1924 being a big year for the brewery launching their XXXX BITTER, XXXX decided to introduce their second icon.
Mr Faurex!
He made his first appearance in a magazine ad, complete with his boater hat and schooner in hand. Since then he has been winking at QLDers and inviting them for a cheeky beer!
BUT WHO IS MR FAUREX?
Some say that he was modelled after Paddy Fitzgerald, a former General Manager of XXXX Brewery. While some others say that it was a local newspaper salesman who loved his XXXX.
But whatever the theory, after being a part of the furniture for almost a century, we can't image XXXX being brewed without him.
XXXX THROUGH THE GOOD AND BAD TIMES
XXXX has always been the drink of the people. It has always been there when times have been tough for Australia.
During the Great Depression of the 1920's, XXXX helped the hard-hit farmers out with free barley seeds, and bought out the pubs that faced closure. This ensured that the families can keep them running.
During the World Wars and the Vietnam War, XXXX distributed their beers overseas so that our diggers were able to keep enjoying the distinct taste of home. Returning diggers were able to enjoy their XXXX once again at home, the only place where you can enjoy a XXXX today.
Then came the Queensland floods of 1974, 2011 and 2013. Even when the brewery ended up underwater, brewers managed to build makeshift rafts to get the beer to those who needed it. All of the funds were donated to keep Queensland afloat.
This is why when you drink XXXX, you know that this beer is there for all the good and bad times, while playing their part as Australia and Queensland's favourite beer.
Whether it's helping the local publican establish a top spot for a schooner, kitting out the local footy team or anything between all that, XXXX takes great pride in supporting the community.
And we don't think they're going anywhere any time soon.

XXXX TODAY
While still keeping its title as Australia's #1 beer, XXXX has also made its brewery carbon neutral.
That is why the brewery temporarily turned their lights green and installed solar panels. XXXX has invested enough carbon credits to offset the entire carbon footprint of the brewery!
Given the history of XXXX and everything that they have contributed to our country, other than great beer, we think there are more than enough reasons for you to wrap your hand around another XXXXX and raise it to the Sunshine State.
